AUTUMN

Dear friend,

I am excited to announce our first quarterly newsletter, designed to follow the seasons and present you with our services and offerings.

As Autumn gets settled in, with its colors, smells, rains and dewy mornings, we still have a little time to plant some bulbs for Spring. We're starting to book in for compost/leaf mulching, and thinking of winter holiday decorations.

“What happens
to the leaves after
they turn red and golden and fall
away? What happens

to the singing birds
when they can’t sing
any longer? What happens
to their quick wings?"
(Read the rest of Mary Oliver's poem here)

Compost/Leaf Mulch

We are taking bookings for garden bed mulching in December and January. Only a few spots left before the end of the year. Email us for details.
  • Leaf mulch: dark black with a mild compost smell; great to protect soils from heavy rains, compaction and runoff, best for soil micro-organism habitat; decomposes over time and feeds carbon into the soil
  • Finely Screened Compost: rich black manure compost; same benefits of leaf mulch but heavier and denser; rich in nitrogen, more nutritional value for the soil
  • Fish Mulch: coarser compost made of chipped bark mulch mixed in with fish, for a balanced carbon nitrogen content; most nutritious; best option for weed suppression

Fall Projects

  • We are currently taking custom orders for cedar raised beds for vegetables and berries (price ranges based on size). Let us know if you'd like some! Cedar is the best wood to use as it's most durable. A great idea if you want to make your veggies more accessible or to contain a specific area of your garden.
  • Get your soil tested ($150). A pH test will allow us to customize the best compost tea for it.
  • Compost tea ($60 per gallon) will add a good dose of micro-organisms to your soil for best nutrient availability and soil regeneration. Recommended for vegetable gardens, berry patches, rose gardens, and clay-heavy soil. Generic or custom-made based on your soil testing results.
  • We still have a small window of time to put bulbs and garlic into the ground, so if you'd like us to grab some tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, snow drops, or alliums for you, let us know soon.

Herbal Teas

Cooler weather invites us to bundle up, get cozy and slow down. To keep our immune system strong, we like to decoct (bring to a boil and simmer for 10 min) rosehips for a boost of vitamin C and bioflavonoids. A touch of honey or maple syrup brings added sweetness and helps us soften into that autumn chill.
